Questions

Why is the text empty?

The PDF is a scan: its pages are pictures, not text. It needs OCR (text recognition) first.

Will the layout stay the same in Word?

No. You get the words in reading order with page breaks, not the design. That is what most people need to edit or reuse text.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. It is opened and changed in your browser, so it never leaves your device.

What if my PDF has a password?

Files protected with a password cannot be opened. Remove the password in the program that made the file, save a copy, and try again.

About the PDF to Text or Word

To get text out of a PDF, add the file and download the text as a .txt file or a Word document. This works for PDFs made on a computer. A scanned PDF is a picture of text, so it has no text to pull out.

Tips for a better result

Why a browser PDF tool is safer

Most tools here run inside your browser. The file is opened on your own device and the result is made there too, so it is never uploaded to our servers. That makes them safe for contracts, IDs, payslips and client files, and they keep working on slow connections because nothing large is sent. You also do not need to install software or create an account. Every tool saves a new copy, so your original file stays exactly as it was.
